If this is your first time, Napa Valley tour can seem hard-to-do since there's not a specific destination. One option you always have to go with one of those packages from tour companies. Those packages are always nice as long as you don't mind shelling out a few bucks and following relatively-strict itineraries set by tour guides.

A better option is to just go there yourself. Self-guided Napa tour can be super easy:

  1. Most wineries are along CA highway 29. If you start from San Francisco Bay Area, you'll take East 80 and then turn onto north 29 at Vijello.
  2. There are the following cities along 29 where you could visit or stay: Napa, Youngsville, St Helena. Youngsville is always a nice town to visit. Napa is not as fancy as Youngsville, however, it's still a nice town to visit
  3. Along highway 29, you'll see signs of different wineries. Most wineries have tasting available, and the signs will tell you if they are open or not. Most wineries are open 10am-4pm, however, some of them do close at 2pm or open until 6pm. Tasting used to be free, nowadays you usually need to pay somewhere around 10 buck probably because too many people abuse the system in the past :-)
