2 How to set up environment variables for apache?

/etc/init.d/httpd points your to a file /etc/sysconfig/httpd, set your env variable there.

3 Rewrite a random file to cgi script?

In the directory where you random script foo is in, create a .htaccess file with the following lines in it:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^trav$ - [T=application/x-httpd-cgi] 
RewriteRule ^trav/.*$ - [T=application/x-httpd-cgi]

If you see "application/x-httpd-cgi, download?" error, make sure the first thing you do in your script is print out exactly "content-type: text/html\n\n".
